The Long Version of my story:

Raised in Santa Fe, NM where I attended a small school that was very supportive of the arts. After high school and a semester at Boston University, I took a trip to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Nepal with thirty rolls of film, which got me thinking about how do you really take pictures? When I returned, I signed up for my first photography class and as luck would have it, during my first week I met William Clift. He became a friend and mentor who generously shared his printing, spotting, studio life, and thoughts on photography. He suggested I take Rodney Smith's workshop at the Santa Fe Photographic workshops. This was followed by a printing class with David Scheinbaum (of Scheinbaum and Russek), who printed for Beaumont Newhall. The next year, I took a workshop with Sheila Metzner. Santa Fe is a great place to be interested in photography, but I needed to spread my wings and see more of the world.

After a brief stint in Charlottesville, Virginia, I moved to Ketchum, ID, where I worked at the Kneeland Gallery, taught photography at the Community School and worked in David Stoecklein's stock photography department. Eventually, I got a stock contract and shot lifestyle, sports and some travel images, but knew I wanted to learn more.

Moved to New York, where I worked in a photography studio rental business, then attended Parsons, which helped me start assisting on shoots for Martha Stewart Living, NY Times Magazine, Country Living, This Old House, House and Garden, etc. and for brands Scalamandre, Pepsi, Phillips, etc. and for photographers Christopher Baker, Irving Penn, David Heinlein and others. Except for Australian Vogue, most of the time I assisted photographers who were photographing interiors, products and sometimes the creators of those things, but not many people.

When a photographer took me to McCall to shoot a house and store, I realized I wanted more dirt and sky in my life, so returned to Ketchum where I purchased a condo that I remodeled. Choosing paint, tile, carpet and making the elements work together, made me want to do more remodeling, so I moved. In Boise, I remodeled historic homes, where I was the contractor, designer, and agent.

Eventually, I went back and got a Visual Art degree which included oil painting, metals, ceramics, and digital photography. Had my first hints of wanting to know more about mixed media and obscured subjects.

In 2020, I moved back to Blaine County, Idaho, where I hike, bike and ski. The mountains are a constant source of inspiration.

In 2022, after years of wanting to obscure my photos, I took a workshop on how to apply encaustic paint onto photos, which led to more exploration and education. Currently, I'm experimenting with abstract encaustic, hot and cold wax, photo transfers and different photo papers.

Now I live between Ketchum and Hailey, Idaho, in a log cabin with my husband and silver lab.

If you made it this far, you are amazing and want to say none of the above really matters. What matters is that I love color, patterns and textures. Sometimes the absence of color helps me focus on composition and texture. When color is involved, it becomes about the intensity or success of those relationships. Ultimately, I love the built environment and want my work to enhance all the beautiful finishes that create a home. Having textural work that works with warm wood and various stones is a big part of why I create the various works. I want my work to be synergistic with finishes.
